Henschke very special drops

With the 2016 iconic wines recently released from Henschke, any wine lover is familiar with their wines, the Henschke name, the six generations of the Henschke family who have been growing grapes since 1860, and their winemaking in South Australia since 1868.

In the 1950’s, 4th generation Cyril Henschke created Hill of Grace and Mount Edelstone - the first single varietal and single vineyard wines from the Eden Valley, and these wines continue to gain international and local accolades.

Winemaker Stephen and viticulturalist wife Prue Henschke give praise to the history and age of the Hill of Grace vines calling the current 2016 release ‘A Congregation of the ancients’ giving reference to when the vines were transported from France in 1860 then planted in the Eden Valley where they thrive and continue to produce remarkable grapes.

The parental vines in France have since succumbed to Phylloxera however the legacy lives on in the Eden Valley, cared for and nurtured with biodynamic and organic principles for future generations. Although Stephen and Prue Henschke, 5th generation, are the current custodians of this wonderful legacy, their three adult children, Justine, Johann and Andreas, the 6th generation, will carry on tradition and lead Henschke into the future.

The Henschke range of wines continues to grow and each addition has a personal connection to a special place, time in history or a person connected to the family. It is extremely unique to have this history and even more so to know you played a part in its past, present and future.
