Domaine Pinson

In Chablis, some names feel like fixtures of the land itself. Domaine Pinson is one of them. The Pinson family settled here in 1640 and never left. Generation after generation walking the same slopes, farming the same soils. Today cousins Laurent and Christophe Pinson run the estate, with Laurent’s daughter Charlène now in the cellar — a fresh voice, but still true to the family’s way.

Their work has always centred on Chardonnay. The entry wines, labelled Domaine Pinson Chablis, carry that unmistakable signature: lemon, green apple, a chalky line of minerality that comes straight from fossil-rich soils. Pour it with oysters or grilled white fish and the wine seems to sharpen the flavours, like sea air passing over salt.

The step up comes with the Premier Crus, bottled as Domaine Pinson Frères Chablis. Vineyards such as Mont de Milieu or Fourchaume give wines that are fuller, more layered. Citrus broadens into stone fruit, minerality edged with florals. These are bottles that can sit happily at the table with roast chicken, richer seafood, or sauces that call for a wine with both freshness and weight.

At the peak sits Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos, the jewel of the domaine. Here Chardonnay shows both power and refinement. Citrus, orchard fruit, spice, a spine of minerality. Young bottles feel commanding; give them a decade and they become intricate, a French wine that draws you back for another look, another sip.

What sets Domaine Pinson apart is balance. Some estates push for razor-sharp austerity, others chase ripeness. Pinson sits in the middle. Stainless steel where it matters, oak used sparingly — enough to give texture, never to mask terroir.

At The Reserve Cellar, we bring Domaine Pinson into our collection because it offers more than labels. It offers continuity. A family that has farmed Chablis for nearly four centuries, still shaping wines that speak of place.
