Domaine Pinson Les Clos Grand Cru 2021
Nestled in Chablis since 1540, Domaine Pinson is a trailblazer, bottling wines for public sale in 1880 and exporting to America. Today, Charlène and Laurent Pinson, a dynamic father-daughter team, lead the domaine. Their prized possession is the Grand Cru 'Les Clos,' constituting 10% of their holdings with vines dating back to 1962. Bathed in Southern exposure and nurtured by Kimmeridgian limestone, these exceptional wines blend tradition and innovation.
Crafted with precision, 80% stainless steel and 20% new barrels shape the fermentation, and aging in 3-4-year-old barrels culminates in a wine bottled in February 2022. Domaine Pinson's legacy lives on—a harmonious symphony of history, terroir, and craftsmanship in every bottle.
Chablis pairs exceptionally well with oysters or other fresh seafood, thanks to its crisp acidity and vibrant mineral notes.
The wine exhibits a deft and skillful application of wood, adding a nuanced layer to its aromatic profile. Ripe yet cool notes of citrus peel, pear, and apple compote dominate the nose, creating a harmonious blend. Subtle hints of mineral reduction and oyster shell contribute to the complexity, offering a sense of sophistication. The overall impression is of a well-balanced aroma where the oak presence is noticeable but not overpowering, promising a delightful olfactory experience.
On the palate, the wine delivers a noteworthy experience with excellent volume and impressive mid-palate density. The flavors are larger-scaled, showcasing focused power with a youthfully austere character. The wine's body is substantial and well-structured, reflecting the skillful use of oak observed in the aroma. The superbly long finale is a highlight, exhibiting a touch of wood that adds to the wine's overall complexity.
