Description

00 Wines “Double Zero” is an ultra-luxury winery producing Grand Cru Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in Oregon, Burgundy, and Champagne. With a singular focus on complex grand cru wines, the multi-national winery is creating an entirely new luxury category in Oregon and beyond. Blending New World with Old World, French and American teams, sun cycles and moon cycles, the hand and the land, the producer and the consumer, 00 Wines brings a perfect harmony of binary forces to create an unparalleled expression from vine to glass. Helmed by Proprietors Chris and Kathryn Hermann, 00 Wines is a family-operated winery named after the number of potential in numerology 0.

As Chris told The Wine Advocate’s Erin Brooks, “I didn’t know how one takes Oregon fruit and creates something that has an echo of white Burgundy, especially the textural component. What makes Coche-Dury and Roulot what they are?" Chris found his answer through the widely admired Burgundian, Pierre Millemann. Millemann began advising the Hermanns in 2016, introducing them to a traditional Burgundian method of 60 to 80 years ago, Black Chardonnay.

It’s an incredible dance between human ideas and nature’s gifts. For us, this is about pushing Chardonnay to its capacity [and] producing distinctively textured and aromatic wines in a relentless pursuit of the extraordinary.

Through this approach, 00 Wines has been making Chardonnays that, as a group, may surpass any we’ve ever tasted from the New World. VGW “Very Good White” Chardonnay.

This offers ripe-pineapple and lime-juice aromas, as well as white peaches and wet stones, in a very expressive mode. The palate has a very smooth core of mellow, cashew nuts and white peaches with some very assertive and dense, fleshy-peach and praline notes to close. Drink or hold.

Pale yellow-gold. Highly expressive, mineral-tinged aromas of fresh melon, pear, tangerine, and succulent flowers, along with saffron, vanilla, and floral nuances that build in the glass. Shows impressive depth as well as liveliness on the palate, offering mineral-accented Meyer lemon, nectarine, Anjou pear, and honeydew flavours that pick up a spicy accent on the back half. Emphatically repeats the pear and spice notes on the impressively long, subtly sweet finish, which delivers powerful thrust and a touch of smoky lees. Drink 2021 - 2028.
