The Domaine du Pegau Cuvée Réservée Châteauneuf-du-Pape Magnum 1.5L 2006 presents an alluring bouquet of complex aromas that entices the senses with its dusky berries, wild fruits, wood smoke, roasted meat, rosemary, and garrigue notes. On the palate, the wine reveals similar notes, accompanied by ripe blackberry, licorice, and provençal herbs.
What sets this vintage apart is its Magnum bottle size, which holds 1.5 litres of wine. This larger format bottle is known to enhance the aging process and preserve the wine's quality for a longer period, resulting in a more developed and nuanced flavour profile. Additionally, the Magnum's size and shape create a stunning appearance that adds to the wine's allure and sophistication.
The wine's round and fine-grained tannins create a texture that is exceptionally silky, indicating that it can be enjoyed earlier than most wines. However, this vintage has ample substance and structure to ensure that it will age well and offer a remarkable drinking experience for years to come. Overall, the Domaine du Pegau Cuvée Réservée Châteauneuf-du-Pape Magnum 1.5L 2006 is a very fine and appealing wine that will impress even the most discerning palates.
While the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reserve has never been my favourite vintage from Laurence, it nevertheless showed nicely on this occasion with classic Pegau notes of tapenade, garrigue, and spiced meats flowing to a medium to full-bodied, supple, sexy wine that will continue to evolve gracefully for another decade.
