Laurence Feraud and her father Paul run the iconic Domaine du Pegau estate, known for its traditional winemaking techniques. The estate's 2010 vintage of their Cuvee da Capo Châteauneuf-du-Pape Magnum 1.5L is a standout product, showcasing the estate's expertise and dedication to quality winemaking.
This magnum bottle size is larger than the standard wine bottle, holding 1.5 litres of wine. It offers several benefits, including a slower aging process due to a smaller ratio of oxygen to wine, resulting in a more complex and nuanced flavour profile. Additionally, magnum bottles provide a striking appearance and are often considered an impressive addition to a wine collection or special occasion.
In addition to their Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines, Domaine du Pegau has also recently acquired new vineyards in the Cotes du Rhone and Cotes du Rhone Villages regions, which have produced excellent wines, including the white Cotes du Rhone, Cuvee Lone, the red Cotes du Rhone, Cuvee Maclure, and the red Cotes du Rhone Villages, Cuvee Setier. Laurence Feraud's Selection Laurence Feraud label also produces exceptional wines using grapes sourced from throughout the Southern Rhone, with a focus on traditional characters and value.
Comprised of roughly 85% Grenache and the rest Syrah and other permitted varieties, aged all in foudre, the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee da Capo is sheer perfection in a glass. Wine doesn’t get any better. Incredibly rich and concentrated, yet ethereal and even graceful, it boasts off-the-hook aromas of blackberry, licorice, spice box, smoked meats, and underbrush that continue to change and develop in the glass. Massive and decadent on the palate, yet again, with no weight and a seamless texture, this brilliant effort needs a handful of years in the cellar and will live to see its 30th birthday in fine form.
