Mongeard-Mugneret Vosne-Romanée Les Petits Monts 1er Cru 2010
Vincent Mongeard elegantly describes 2010 as a "vintage of distinction. The wines are pure and transparent and the quality of the tannins is even finer than usual. It was however a very small crop and depending on the location anywhere from 30 to 50% lower than a typical harvest. As to the harvest, it was relatively clean and potential alcohols averaged between 12.5 and 13.8% so there wasn't much chaptalization and in many cases, none at all. Among my vineyards, I have a very small preference for the Côte de Nuits compared to the Côte de Beaune but really, any qualitative difference is minor. Overall, 2010 is really an excellent vintage but it's a connoisseur's vintage and as such, I suspect that 2009 will be more popular. That said, it's just as well because there is a lot more of 2009 than there is of 2010."
