Littorai is one of the most important producers of chardonnay and pinot noir in the United States. It is the brainchild of Ted Lemon and is dedicated to making wine from fruit sourced only from the western Sonoma and Mendocino Counties. The main focus is on making single-vineyard wines that express the individual characteristics of the site; however, there are also two regional blends; one from Sonoma and one from Mendocino. As much as possible organic and biodynamic principles are used in the vineyards and cellar practices also reflect this ethic. For example, on rare occasions, racking does take place it is done on the waning moon as this is when
the lees are most compact and the wine most clear. In addition, yeast nutrients and enzymes are never used and malo inoculations are only ever performed in emergency situations. The wine is not filtered but is fined.
Tight and linear with crushed berry, strawberry and orange peel. Some watermelon, too. Medium-bodied with firm, fine tannins and a flavorful finish. Bright and beautiful.
