The 2018 Rosso di Montalcino opens with a bouquet laced with dark red fruits, forest floor, soil-borne minerality, and peppery herbs. On the palate, soft textures lead into wild berry fruits, minerals, and herbaceous inner florals, as hints of fine tannin slowly mount toward the finale, which is long and dramatic, showing echoes of red and black fruits, tobacco, and savoury spice. There is so much going on in this glass and with so much energy. I’m tempted to say that you should err on the side of caution and put some away in the cellar, yet you may not be able to restrain yourself, because it’s already drinking great. This is so pretty.
