The story of Domaine La Barroche revolves around people, terroir and passion. The passion is for the good things in life – the love of simple, honest pleasures. At Domaine de Barroche, we love our vineyards, our wine and all that is authentic. Imagine a corner of land filled with century-old vines and the purest, sandy soil…Made entirely from Grenache, the wine is a striking homage to Châteauneuf-du-Pape and its most celebrated grape variety. It embodies delicacy and synthesis of exquisite flavours, a perfect balance between power and generosity. Pure is handcrafted from a single plot of 100-year-old vines and sandy soil, at the junction of “Grand Pierre”, “Rayas” and “Pointu” districts.
Lurid ruby-red. Powerful Chambord, cherry pastry, incense, lavender and spice cake aromas show sharp definition and pick up a lively mineral nuance as the wine opens up. Sweet and seamless on the palate, offering deeply concentrated but energetic raspberry, cherry liqueur, five-spice powder and floral pastille flavours that are given a lift by a jolt of juicy acidity. Suavely blends richness and finesse and finishes extremely long and smooth, with resonating floral and spiciness and pliant tannins that lend shape and gentle grip.
Offering a Grand Cru Burgundy-like nose of flinty minerality, blackcurrants, violet, white flowers, and ground pepper, it hits the palate with medium to full body, soft tannins, and a wonderful sense of purity and freshness… this is certainly one of the fresher, more Burgundian-styled wines I’ve tasted from Barroche.
