The Scharzhofberg is one of the most famous and demanding vineyards in the world. Only Riesling grows on its slopes, which gets its uniquely delicate nuances from the balance between the heat storage of the weathered slate and the cold winds of the Hunsrück. The wines that come from this location achieve top prices at auctions and it is not for nothing that the myth of Scharzhofberg is spoken of. We are proud to own 2.85 hectares in the world's most famous Riesling vineyard.
The 2019 German Riesling has garnered well-deserved acclaim for both its dry and sweeter variations, and within this spectrum, a true standout emerges: the Auslese.
Hailing from a singular vineyard nestled on the renowned slopes of Scharzhofberg in the refreshingly cool Saar Valley, a subregion of the Mosel, this wine exudes an opulence that captivates the senses. It unravels with a profusion of flavors, akin to an orchestra of tangerines, blood oranges, and tantalizing finger limes. Beneath this vibrant fruit bouquet, a bedrock of slatey minerality and a saline touch imbue the wine with a profound sense of place.
With an assured journey of extended development over the next 15-20 years, this wine embodies the essence of patience and reward. As for when to indulge, the choice becomes a purely personal matter, as this gem promises to evolve gracefully at your own pace, revealing its hidden depths over time.
Saline and spicy, cool mint and floral notes, ripe peach and apple. Juicy, sweet apple and tropical fruit, powdery texture, sweet but kind of savoury too with a camembert skin flavour, and a finish that goes on and on. Outstanding. Should age magnificently.
