The saga of André Robert Champagne spans five generations, tracing its origins to the hallowed, chalk-rich soils of Le Mesnil sur Oger, classified as a grand cru. In the annals of this historic village, Henri Robert emerged as a trailblazing figure, orchestrating its inaugural growers' association. His son, the namesake André Robert, acquired the estate beneath which now lies a meticulously hand-carved, 19th-century cellar—a sanctum where the family's intricate, barrel-aged elixirs mature in splendid solitude.
Today, Bertrand Robert, alongside his wife Colette and their daughter Claire, meticulously stewards a sprawling expanse of 35 acres bedecked with grand and premier cru terroirs within the Côte des Blancs. They embody the quintessential grower-producer family, committed to the pursuit of crafting Champagnes that exemplify the refined and expressive essence of pure Mesnil Champagne.
A selection of plots on Mesnil sur Oger grand cru, Cuis 1er cru, Vertus 1er cru, Etrechy and Vitry, 46% of which are vinified and aged in small barrels on lees with stirring for 10 months. The whole is blended quietly without malolactic fermentation to keep the typical freshness of the Mesnil sur Oger Chardonnay. This wine is a beautiful interpretation of Chardonnay.
