Description

Renowned and respected as one of the finest producers in Burgundy, Bouchard Père et Fils has truly become an institution, known for the exceptional quality of its wines and the diversity of its many vineyards.

Founded in 1731, Bouchard Père et Fils has built up an estate of 130ha and, collectively, is the largest owner of Grand Crus (12ha) and Premier Crus (74ha) across the Côte d’Or. Bouchard Père et Fils represents almost one hundred climates or uniquely diverse vineyards, including prestigious monopoles such as ‘Beaune Grèves Vigne de l’Enfant Jésus’ and ‘Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte’.

Les Rugiens is a Premier Cru vineyard within the Pommard appellation in the Côte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy. It is one of Pommard's most highly prized vineyards and, with the Epenots sites, is considered by many to be worthy of Grand Cru status. The wines, made from Pinot Noir, can be full-bodied and brooding in character with smoky, spicy aromas. They usually age for many years.

Rich full purple. The bouquet has a freshness to it, which aids precision. Seamless gorgeous ripe fruit right across the palate, and with excellent length. Shows where it comes from (upper part), but a brilliant expression of the terroir. More in aromatic elegance than the grand cru density of the lower part.

Notes of wild berries, dark chocolate, spices, and grilled meats preface Bouchard's 2019 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens, a medium to full-bodied, racy, and precise wine, with a concentrated, tightly wound core of fruit, powdery tannins, and a long, lively finish. More suave and elegant than the 2018 rendition, this is a refined Rugiens in the making.
