1988 in Champagne
The grapes of the 1988 harvest showed characteristics promising favourable development for the wines they produced. There was a mild winter, followed by frosts in spring, an unseasonably warm April, then squally showers in May, and a dry summer that eventually gave way to thunderstorms. The capricious inconstancy of the Champagne skies didn’t treat this harvest particularly kindly, but it did produce very satisfying wines with their own personalities.
