Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale. A sprawling hillside region 10 kms North East of McLaren Vale town centre famous for its added comparative elevation and abundant hillside aspects whose rich ironstone and deep sand deposits forge individual and highly fragrant wines. The Merlot was planted in 1990 and the Cabernet in 1995 and represents excellent younger vine material used for the composition of the Domaine Clarendon BDX. This site has an Eastern aspect and is located 220 metres above sea level and represents Blewitt Springs’ lower altitude terroir with heavy sands across limestone.
Black fruit, pencils, earth, dark chocolate, and dried flowers. It’s full-bodied, dense, and packed with graphite tannin, ripe black fruits, and tobacco, ample yet still fresh, and suffused with a ‘mineral’ feel, finish is very long and ferrous, with perfume and praline trailing. Outstanding.
