Description

Situated 610 meters above sea level and overseeing Central Victoria, the Cobaw Ridge vines thrive in the granite-rich mountain soil, working hard to produce well-balanced grapes. This unique site's challenges, combined with the Cooper's dedication to sustainable and natural practices, result in wines that truly reflect their origin and time. No additives, fining, filtration, or stabilization are applied, except for minimal sulphites before bottling.

The l'altra is a mix of 90% Syrah (pressed as Rose) and 10% Pinot Noir pressings, aged in old oak. It has a vibrant and juicy taste, featuring pepper spice and herbal notes. It's enjoyable chilled, easy to drink, yet it has some interesting details and complexity.

Review

This syrah styled as a lighter, fresher expression, with a dash of pinot noir and lagrein as seasoning.

It has that shimmering, garnet glow in the glass, a vibrant ruby hue of frisky intent. It crackles and crunches in the palate, tart cranberry, pomegranate juice, blood orange, watermelon and dashes of sage and minty herbal inflection. Live wire stuff, a sweetness, almost verging into Ribena territory but for the herbs and high tensile acidity lending the freshening factor that makes it soar. With time open, things settle down and savoury up too. It’s a delicious expression.
