Comte Armand Auxey-Duresses Rouge 1er Cru 2020
Clos des Epeneaux is a prestigious vineyard located in Pommard and has been owned by the family of Comte Armand since 1825. After being devastated by phylloxera, the vineyard was replanted in 1930 and later expanded in 1994 with the acquisition of other vineyards in Auxey-Duresses, Volnay, and Volnay's Frémiets.
The modern era of winemaking at Clos des Epeneaux began with Pascal Marchand, followed by Benjamin Leroux, who left in 2014 to focus on his own business. Paul Zinetti is the current winemaker.
The vineyard has a south-facing slope with unique geology and an average vine age of 40 years. It is one of the most calcareous areas in the Côte de Beaune, with 30% active limestone. The wines from this vineyard are rich with small fruit and can be enjoyed young, but also have the potential to age for up to 10 years.
