This wine is a blend from 3 different terroirs : L'Ermite, le Sabot, and the famed plot, les Bessards. Average production: 30,000 bottles (75 cl.) per year. Grape Variety: 100% Syrah.
All grapes of the cuvée "Domaine des Tourettes" are picked by hand, according to appropriate ripening in each terroir. Fermentation takes place in traditional open-topped concrete tanks, after 2 days pre-fermentary skin contact at cool temperatures. Maceration continues at controlled temperatures of 82°F and 86°F (28°C to 30°C). Daily cap pushing down and pumping over are carried out for about 10 days, with a total vatting period up to 20 days. After devatting and pressing, the malolactic fermentation is carried out in oak barrels.
Maturation is done in French oak barrels. On each vintage, the notes of wood are the result of precise and variable proportion between new barrels and barrels which have already held one wine, and it is adapted according to each vintage tannic & tasting characteristics.
A blend of fruit from the lieux-dits Les Bessards, Le Sabot and L’Ermite, this 2019 draws together a picture of the Hermitage hill in all its grandeur and complexity. At its center, it’s bright and juicy, filled with ripe berry flavors; around the edges, it’s stony and firm, with herbal notes that accent its cool reserve. It shows some vanilla and spice tones from its time in oak (a mix of new and barrels) but the fruit handles it well, absorbing it into a warm, rich density of flavor. This should age well for 20 years or more.
"The wine has a deep, dark purple color and tone. Its aroma is pure, presenting a delicate combination of intensity and ripeness, accompanied by stony notes, raw meat, pepper, bay leaf, and layers of rich, dark fruit and cassis. On the palate, the wine is thick and concentrated, displaying a youthful texture that is refined with fine-grained and polished tannins. It maintains a vibrant freshness beneath the powerful dark fruit flavors, featuring subtle peppery and meaty qualities. The finish is very long and muscular.
