Domaine de la Vougeraie, located in Premeaux, south of Nuits St Georges, has a rich history in Burgundy winemaking. The Domaine was created in 1999, when the Boisset group merged their various vineyard holdings into one company. The winery is situated in the old cellars of Claudine Deschamps, also known as Madame Jean-Claude Boisset. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically and the Domaine has nearly 40 hectares of vineyard and over 30 different appellations, including six grand crus.
One of their standout products is the De La Vougeraie Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles Magnum 1.5L 2019. This wine is produced from a stony vineyard at an altitude of 360 metres, with woodland just above it. The vineyard is a popular feeding ground for wild boar. Half the crop was vinified whole-bunch, primarily from older vines.
The magnum size of the De La Vougeraie Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles 1.5L 2019 offers several benefits. The larger bottle size allows the wine to age more gracefully, as it slows down the maturation process. The wine inside the magnum bottle is also less susceptible to temperature fluctuations, as it has a greater volume of wine-to-air ratio. The magnum bottle is also visually impressive and adds an extra touch of elegance to any dinner party or gathering.
In terms of taste, the 2019 vintage is particularly noteworthy, with pronounced spicy aromas and pliant tannins, and a wealth of plummy red fruit on the palate. The wine is exceptionally open and expressive, making it a true standout among Burgundy's leading Domaines.
