This Grand Cru, Corton 'Clos du Roi,' occupies a prime position along the southeastern slope of the hill. Nestled amidst premier-quality clay and limestone soils, the Domaine's parcel is exceptionally situated at the very heart of this hillside. It is perched just above the pathway that divides Les Bressandes and Clos du Roi.
Corton 'Clos du Roi' stands as a distinguished Grand Cru in its own right. It possesses the essential attributes of exceptional material, intricate complexity, a delicate touch, and profound depth. It's truly remarkable how this wine encapsulates the unique characteristics of its geographical location, drawing from both the Côtes de Nuits (with its complex aromatics and superior tannin quality) and the Côte de Beaune (exuding freshness, vibrancy, and a solid material foundation).
An exuberantly spicy nose of black cherry, warm earth and violet betrays only a hint of the Sauvage. The super-sleek and impressively intense larger-scaled flavours brim with both minerality and dry extract before terminating in a very firm, austere and serious finale. This built-to-age effort is also going to need time to further flesh out.
