Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru wines are those made under the strictest conditions of the Morey-Saint-Denis appellation, from grapes grown exclusively in Premier Cru-classified sites. The vast majority of these wines are red, made from Pinot Noir.
A commune in the Côte de Nuits sub-region of Burgundy, Morey-Saint-Denis is home to 20 Premier Cru climats. Around 33 hectares (82 acres) of the 140 hectares (345 acres) currently under vine in Morey-Saint-Denis are classified as Premier Cru.
These vineyards mostly lie in a tightly defined strip immediately below a similar row of Grand Cru properties, on the lower mid-slope of the Côte d'Or escarpment.
The 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru is very promising indeed, mingling aromas of raspberries and plums with scents of rose petals, dark chocolate, and baking spices. Medium to full-bodied, perfumed, and tightly wound, with fine depth at the core, lively acids, and a long, saline finish, I increasingly think that this cuvée is the most underrated wine in the Domaine Dujac portfolio.
