G.D. Vajra Clare J.C Nebbiolo DOCG 2022
100% Nebbiolo. 25% of the fruit was gently put as whole cluster at the bottom of the vat and topped up with crushed juice. After 5 days, wine was racked into a closed tank to finish fermentation off the skins, for a gentler extraction. Malolactic in stainless steel. Claré J.C. is bottled early, after a very short period in vat, so to retain the most freshness into the bottle.
The name, Claré J.C., pays homage to Thomas Jefferson – who visited Piemonte in 1787 and described Nebbiolo “dry (https://winedecoded.com.au/wine-terms/dry/) as a claret, sweet and lingering as Madeira, brisk as Champagne” and to Darrell Corti of Corti Bros Sacramento, CA. – an amazing person and pioneer of Piemonte wines who helped us recreate the style of this forgotten, semi-sweet and sparkling Nebbiolos.
Mushroom risotto · Beef pie · Stuffed cabbage leaves · Roasted lamb with garlic and rosemary · Spaghetti bolognese.
Semi translucent ruby red colour with black toned edges and a light red hue. The nose delivers a fragrant bouquet of rose petals, red cherry and red liquorice intertwined with fresh herb and subtle earthy tobacco notes.
Juicy red cherry and red liquorice fruits cast a light, energetic feel across the palate with infusions of fresh herbs, earth and minerals lying underneath. Crunchy acidity and slightly chalky tannins with a light grippy feel to the vibrant red fruited finish.
