We’re delighted to share that Hirsch Vineyards has again been named one of the Top 100 Wineries of the Year by Wine & Spirits Magazine.
Hirsch is a rare sight in Australia, as so little of this iconic producer's wine is imported. We are lucky to have a couple of their outstanding Pinot Noirs. The iconic Hirsch Vineyards estate was founded by pioneer farmer and future winemaker David Hirsch back in 1980, on a spectacular setting overlooking the Pacific Ocean at the northern tip of Sonoma County. They have the oldest premium Pinot Noir vineyard on the true Sonoma Coast. Today David Hirsch works alongside his daughter Jasmine to produce some of the finest Pinot Noirs in the world.
Hirsch wines are lo-fi and biodynamic and live outside the current perception of big rich Californian Pinot. They are tight, linear, pristine wines, more akin to Chambolle than Central Otago. The Block 8 is an exceptional single vineyard wine, from what is essentially their Grand Cru site, five miles back from the Pacific up a dirt road. Finely poised, cranberry and cherry-flavoured, with wild herbs and spices abundant. Very linear. Very cellar-worthy.
The iron-rich soils of this single parcel deliver a strikingly spicy and seductively complex nose with a wealth of ripe red cherries and wildflowers in play. So much going on here. Fleshy and attractively juicy cherries on the palate. Very polished, long, and defined tannins really impress. Drink or hold. - James Suckling (JamesSuckling.com)
