This "little Hundertgulden" Riesling emerges from youthful vines thriving in our premier vineyard, rich with limestone soil. Here, dried apricots intertwine with subtle salinity, extract, and spice, imbuing the wine with a lithe strength on the palate. Its distinctive character owes much to the coral reef that once shaped these soils during the Tertiary age, symbolized by a common fossil gracing its label.
Nestled approximately 5 km from the Rhine River between Mainz and Bingen lies the quaint wine village of Appenheim. Here, some 20 million years ago, the tendrils of the primordial sea embraced this northern Rheinhessen spot. Today, the finest vineyards bear testament to this ancient history, their soils composed of Tertiary Age shell limestone, yielding wines of remarkable minerality and expressiveness. Geological traces from that era are ever-present, with vineyard strolls often unveiling fossils from the distant past.
Hofmann's Rieslings beautifully reflect the unique geological and climatic blessings of this extraordinary locale. Each bottle serves as a testament to the very essence of the land it hails from, encapsulating the rich soil and heritage upon which our region thrives.
