Inama Carmenere Piu Veneto Rosso 2021
85% Carmenere and 15% Merlot
In the 1960s Giuseppe Inama, purchased parcels of old vine garganega on the volcanic soils of Soave Classico. His son Stefano developed the fabulously textural style of the Inama whites, with fermentation in stainless steel and small French oak for garganega and sauvignon blanc. With his sons Matteo, Luca and Alessio, Stefano recognised the untapped potential of near by Colli Berici, for the production of elegant, savoury reds from Bordeaux varieties, (cabernet, merlot and carmenère).
'Più’ means ‘more’ in Italian and there’s more than just Carmenere in this typical blend from the Colli Berici, a line of gently rolling volcanic hills in Italy’s north-east. Merlot is a civilising influence, the plumy accent and refined tannins marry well with a touch of French oak. The iron-rich clay soil over a limestone base is perfect for Bordeaux varieties and Carmenere, introduced in the 19th century, suffered from amnesia for decades. Cabernet Franc it most definitely is not – the soy sauce, cocoa and grainy tannins ought to have been unmistakeable.
At its best with local salami and grilled pork
Dark red color with blue-purple reflections. Elegant nose of small dark berries, cocoa and black pepper.
On the palate balanced with excellent freshness, fruity and spicy without tannic impediments.
