Les Charmes is the largest and arguably the most famous of Chambolle-Musigny's Premier Cru climats, located at the base of the Côte d'Or escarpment in Burgundy. It is planted entirely to Pinot Noir and makes a style of wine that is classically Chambolle-Musigny: floral and delicate with silky tannins.
The vineyard covers 9.5 hectares (23 acres) in the centre of the appellation about halfway between the Bonnes-Mares and Le Musigny Grand Cru vineyards. The top half of the climat, near Chambolle-Musigny village, is fairly flat, but the eastern part of the vineyard slopes down toward Vougeot. This aspect helps give the vineyard a terroir worthy of its prestige and fame: along with Les Amoureuses, it is one of the most sought-after Premier Cru wines from Chambolle-Musigny.
This is also reduced and reveals nothing on the nose. More interesting are the more voluminous if not quite as vibrant medium-bodied flavours that possess a suave and very rounded mouthfeel before concluding in a suave, sappy and bitter pit fruit-inflected finale.
