Domaine de La Pousse d'Or is a high-profile Domaine based in the village of Volnay, in Burgundy's southerly Côte de Beaune subregion. The Domaine is known for both its Premier Cru Volnay homonym, the Bousse d'Or climat, as well as a raft of plots in top vineyards in the Côte de Beaune. It produces both red (Pinot Noir) and white (Chardonnay) wines from its headquarters in the impressive Château de Volnay (also known as the Pousse d'Or manor).
Chambolle-Musigny is a tiny commune in the Côte de Nuits sub-region of Burgundy. It has a population of fewer than 400 but enjoys a historic and widespread reputation for its high-quality wines.
The village produces almost exclusively red wines from Pinot Noir. The classic Chambolle-Musigny wine is powerful, yet refined and perfumed. Along with Vosne-Romanée and Gevrey-Chambertin, the village is considered to produce some of the finest Pinot Noir wines on earth. The perfume which characterizes the wines has earned Chambolle a reputation as the 'Volnay' of the Côte de Nuits.
Mild reduction pushes the underlying fruit to the background but it's clearly ripe. Otherwise, there is a lovely sense of refinement to the attractively textured middle-weight flavours that exude evident minerality on the clean, focused, and delicious finish. This is very Chambolle in style.
