Description

Levantine Hill is located in Victoria’s Yarra Valley and is one of Australia’s most premium wine producers. A family-owned estate comprising two vineyards and a state-of-the-art winery, cellar door, and highly awarded restaurant, its wines are handcrafted without compromise by renowned Australian winemaker Paul Bridgeman. With a stated ethos of producing cool climate, and delicate and refined wines of uncompromising quality, Levantine Hill has established a world-class reputation, winning many major international awards and the acclaim of leading wine experts.

Our Katherine’s Paddock Chardonnay blend (from our three distinct clonal plantings) combines the richness, drive, and classicism of our north-east facing P58 clone with the fruit intensity of the east-facing central block of Mendoza & the fine-boned flinty structure and chalky notes of the south-east facing block of Bernard 95 clone. This vineyard reliably & consistently produces a profound stylistic reclamation of Chardonnay where body, flavour, and palate weight can co-exist with structure, texture, and restrained acidity.

Review

White peach, nougat, gentle spice and subtle struck match. It’s medium-weight but packs in flavour, a gentle glide and gloss of almond creaminess with the vigour and ripe grapefruit acid cut of the 2017 vintage. There’s grip and substance, some citrus pith and lime rind, and a very long finish, smooth almond and stonefruit, cinched in with chalky texture and bridging (Bridgeman) phenolics. Beautiful expression of Yarra Chardonnay here.

Food pairing
Chardonnay pairs well with a variety of foods, including chicken, seafood, creamy pasta dishes, and soft cheeses.

Tasting Profile

Nose
Elevated aromas of lemon curd, guava, quince, golden apple, cracker biscuit, lovage, cardamom and caraway seed with elements of flint and struck match. This ‘amplified’ counterpoint to our single-vineyard Estate Chardonnay balances an integrated subtle line of natural acidity with ample varietal expression.
Palate
The understated persistent flavours marry creaminess and a biscuit-base texture through the long finish.
