Vincent Mongeard reflects on the 2015 growing season, noting that while it encountered a singular challenge in the form of oidium pressure, the remainder unfolded with remarkable ease. The weather conditions, characterized by warmth and dryness without reaching extremes, paved the way for an impeccable harvest, yielding fruit that was not only perfectly clean but also ripe and impeccably balanced. Throughout the vinification process, the primary focus remained on delicately navigating tannin extraction, ensuring a harmonious outcome. In summary, according to Mongeard, the 2015 vintage stands out as a truly exceptional one, embodying greatness in every aspect.
Valued at over $880 - 3 x 750ml bottles
Bottle 1: Mongeard-Mugneret Chambolle-Musigny 2015(Burgundy, France - 89 points)
A pungent nose is composed of reduction and wood toast. There is a notably finer mouth feel to the lighter-weight flavours that exude evident minerality on the vibrant if slightly warm finale. This is a pretty if not particularly deep Chambolle villages.
Bottle 2: Mongeard-Mugneret Gevrey-Chambertin 2015 (Burgundy, France - 90 points)
Vincent Mongeard commented that the 2015 growing season "presented only one real challenge, which was some oidium pressure but after that, it was pretty much stress-free. The conditions were hot and dry yet not extreme and thus by the time the harvest arrived the spotlessly clean fruit was ripe and very well-balanced.
Bottle 3: Mongeard-Mugneret Vosne-Romanée 2015(Burgundy, France - 91 points)
Reduction and wood toast dominate the nose at present. By contrast, there is excellent richness to the full-bodied and suave medium-bodied flavours that tighten up quickly on the balanced, complex, and impressively persistent finish. This appears to be the best wine in the 2015 range among the Mongeard villages cuvées.
