Since the eighteenth century, the esteemed Mongeard family has been an integral part of the Vosne-Romanée winemaking legacy. Historical records date back to 1786, highlighting a Mongeard's tenure as vigneron at the illustrious Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
In 1945, young Jean Mongeard, born to the esteemed Mugneret lineage, assumed winemaking duties at a mere 16 years old, following the untimely passing of his father. This pivotal year saw the entire 1945 crop procured by Baron le Roy, Marquis d’Angerville, and Henri Gouges. Under Gouges' tutelage, Jean personally bottled the wines, marking a departure from traditional barrel sales.
Fast forward to 1975, Vincent Mongeard, Jean's son, joined his father in the family endeavor. Taking charge of viticulture and vinification, Vincent advocated for a return to ancestral methods, championing unfiltered bottling, a practice upheld for select vintages. Upon Jean's retirement in 1995, Vincent assumed full leadership of the domaine.
Today, Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret boasts over 75 acres across 35 appellations, showcasing the family's commitment to terroir-driven winemaking. The diverse range of climates in their vineyards yields wines of unparalleled complexity and distinction.
