This extraordinary wine originates from some of the oldest Pinot vines in all of Australia, instilling it with a rare and distinguished character. This is a very special expression of Pinot Noir, with the fruit all being sourced from the Old Hill Vineyard which is home to the oldest plantings of Pinot Noir in the country.
The grapes get treated gently and delicately - hand picked and hand destemmed (with a small percentage of whole bunches in the mix too), then doted over while it ferments until finally set to rest in French oak puncheons for eight months.
Sweet cherry scents, Cherry Ripe whiff, cherry pith, cold brew coffee mouthfeel with more… cherries. Clove and orange tension, vibrancy, spice and shapely tannin, bouncy in the mouth, a bit nervy but lifted character, acidity punches with freshly crushed green peppercorns finish.
Cherry and almond, a bit meaty (think roast lamb or sausages), cedar, spice, a little dusty and earthy. It’s medium-bodied, cherry and darker fruit, ironstone and dried herbs, quite chalky in texture, with a dusty dryness on the finish, which has solid length and a light sappiness. It tastes of Pinot Noir and the Hunter Valley, which at least for me, is a pretty appealing combo. It think it needs a couple more years to settle down.
