Vaulorent is a sub-climate of 1er Cru Fourchaume; it is located on the same hill as all of the Grand Cru but is not Grand Cru because it is not a part of the commune of Chablis. The vineyards face north and it's one of the last to be harvested. Limestone soil. Clean and fresh with a persistent mineral backbone.
With respect to the 2020 vintage, Piuze commented that it was "another hot and dry growing season where the trick was to preserve the acidity. As such, we chose to begin picking very early, which is to say on the 22nd of August. This date was between 90 to 95 days after the middle of the flowering, depending on the sector in question. The harvest conditions were, consistent with the growing season in general, also hot and dry so we picked as quickly as we could
An expressive nose combines aromas of white flowers, anise, tea, oyster shell, and whiffs of the ocean breeze. There is better volume if not quite the same degree of refinement on the punchy, saline, and sneaky long finale. This firm effort is lovely with a Zen-like sense of poise.
