Introducing the latest addition to the limited release Ponting Milestone Collection.
This wine marks Ricky Ponting's milestone innings of 257 vs. India at the Melbourne Cricket Grounds in the 2003 Boxing Day Test. Coming off a loss to India at the Adelaide Oval, Ricky plundered a career-best '257' to bring the 2003-04 Border-Gavaskar Trophy back on level terms at the MCG.
“India were the toughest of competitors. This made scoring my highest test score of 257 and back-to-back double centuries in consecutive tests, a truly cherished milestone of my career.” - Ricky Ponting
"The '257' is made in a style to reflect the best of Tasmania. Ricky and I selected a single site in Meadowbank to create a Milestone-worthy Pinot Noir." - Ben Riggs
Lifted aromatics of spice, florals, dark cherry, bramble, sap, dried herbs and some whole-bunch funk. The palate is layered, textured and has plenty of complexity, briary blue fruits, shapely tannins and punchy acidity all combine for a very complete and satisfying wine.
We are certainly getting a bit more serious here as we move up the Ponting Pinot chain. This single vineyard wine carries beautiful subtlety with whole bunch fruit playing an important part. It starts a little wild with backyard strawberries, fruits of the forrest and fresh earth aromas topped by layers of floral spice. There is a real elegance then with reserved, compact and detailed fruit flavours entwined with flowing, fine tannins through to an ethereal finish. It’s already delicious but will get better in bottle.
