McLaren Vale stands as a geological marvel, boasting over 40 diverse geologies that contribute to its unique terroir. Embracing a Mediterranean climate shaped by robust winter rainfall, low humidity, warm summers, and the tempering influence of the nearby Gulf St Vincent, McLaren Vale creates an environment conducive to extraordinary winemaking.
The McLaren Vale vintage witnessed robust winter rainfall followed by persistent wet and cold conditions extending into spring, culminating in a delayed budburst. This familiar combination resulted in a protracted ripening period and a late harvest. Despite the challenges and slower ripening, the vintage yielded lower quantities, yet promised wines of exquisite quality and elegance.
Crafted in traditional open fermenters and culminating in 35% new oak, predominantly French with a touch of American, The Pinnacle encapsulates McLaren Vale's essence. With vineyard parcels meticulously kept distinct during fermentation and maturation, the final blend emerged three months before bottling. This powerful Shiraz pays homage not only to McLaren Vale but also to the artistry of winemaking, boasting an elegantly structured palate adorned with soft tannins and rich notes of savory redberry fruit, black pepper, and nutmeg.
