The Domaine was established in 1998 by one of Burgundy’s most notable names, Mr. Henri Roch who was also the co-director of Domaine de la Romanée Conti & the grandson of the legendary Henri Leroy. Prieuré Roch farms vineyards in some of Burgundy’s most famous villages having an enviable holding of 14 hectares which include the notable Grand Crus of Clos de Beze & Clos Vougeot. They are also the custodian of two monopoles including the imposing 5.2-hectare Clos de Corvées located in Nuits-Saint-Georges which has a history dating back to the 15th century & Clos Goillote located in Vosne Romanée, a rare .55 hectare plot fifty metres from La Tache & previously owned by Domaine de la Romaneé Conti.
Prieure Roch has been farming with organic viticulture since its inception and produces extremely low yields in all its plots to maximise phenolic & fruit ripeness.
Situated in the commune of Primeaux-Prissey at the South of the appellation, Clos des Argillières counts among 41 Premier Crus of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation. It is part of the larger ‘climat’ (plot) known as “Argillières”. It adjoins Clos des Corvées and is distinguished by its steep slope which at its highest touches the cap rock. When it became part of Domaine Prieuré Roch in 2009, the plot was already being cultivated organically for several years and so easily found its’ place among the most expressive “terroirs” of the Domaine.
