Description
"Chant du Vent" translates to "Song of the Wind". A luscious Central Otago Chardonnay from the fabulous duo at Sato Wines.
The Sato Chant du Vent Chardonnay is sourced from across the three blocks planted by Yoshiaki and Kyoko Sato on their small vineyard in the shade of Mt. Pisa.
"Chant du Vent" translates to "Song of the Wind", which refers to the whistling noise created by the wind as it hurtles through the vineyard posts. The Satos want this wine, along with the Sur Les Nuages Pinot Noir, to represent their whole farm, so in a way, this is the Siren Song of the Sato vineyard.
It's a richly yet mineral-driven Chardonnay with plenty of weight and flavour. It will drink well now but also reward mid-term cellaring.

Nose
A similar nose to the Chenin Blanc initially, oxidative honeyed spice and ripe nectarine; it settles slowly into a more nuanced, mineral-inflected expression with white pepper and floral high tones leading to a surprisingly fresh and clean river stone, clove/cinnamon apple undertow which frames and defines the wilder notes above.
