The first white Supertuscan made from Chardonnay grapes grown on Tenuta Casa di Sala in Panzano in Chianti. La Pietra was an innovation in the Chianti wine scene when in 1983 Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari decided to vinify and age the Chardonnay grapes as they already did with the great Tuscan red wines. The result is a surprising white for its impressive aptitude for long refinements in the bottle.
Floral and tropical fruits are among the complex aromas of this wine complemented by rich flavors and great structure followed by an outstanding minerality and crisp acidity.
A serious chardonnay with sliced, ripe white peaches and apples and some vanilla and honey character. Hints of biscuits. It’s medium-to full-bodied, flavorful and intense with freshness and softness at the same time. Drink or hold.
