This Sauvignon Blanc is more than a wine; it encapsulates the essence of our journey—the rich tapestry of our past, our profound love for Sauvignon Blanc, and our steadfast commitment to its excellence. Symbolic of our enduring dedication, it reflects the meticulous care in our vineyards, the artistry of our talented winemakers, and the relentless pursuit of showcasing Sauvignon Blanc in its most magnificent form.

With vibrant citrus aromas accompanied by lifted florals and smoky notes on nose, this is a multi-dimensional wine with a zesty acid backbone and a structured mineral texture. From selecting the highest quality fruit, through the hands of our passionate winemakers, Woven truly reflects the journey of Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc.

A dry and mild summer with Marlborough’s signature high sunshine hours and cool nights delivered fruit in the best possible condition. The 2021 early autumn season provided Marlborough with very stable weather conditions, therefore fruit was able to reach optimal physiological and flavour ripeness. The fruit was impeccably clean and the lower yields meant the grapes packed punch in flavour and concentration.

Located in the Fairhall locality below the eastern foothills of Marlborough’s Wairau Valley, the vineyard surrounds Villa Maria’s Marlborough winery. Originally planted in 1999 with more recent planting as late as 2015. The typically warm days and cool nights during the growing season lead to intense concentrated flavors with a fresh energetic line of acidity while the predominantly clay based soils give weight and structure to the wines. Sustainable practices and an emphasis on biodiversity brings life into the vineyard ensuring healthy, resilient vines that produce complex and characterful wines.

Weighty, mouth-filling sauvignon blanc with passionfruit, guava, green apple, grapefruit, lime, red capsicum and ginger flavours. Serious sauvignon with power and complexity. An unusual and interesting peppery texture.

Review

A captivating pungent bouquet with aromas of lees and soil characters, a suggestion of old barrel and youthful reduction, ripe fruit scents of grapefruit and white fleshed fruits, some red bell-pepper and sweet herbs, banana-passionfruit and wet gravel soils. Firm, youthful, crisp, fruity and dry on the palate. The backbone of acidity carries flavours throughout the palate, acidity adds a saline crispness and backbone. Delicious, fresh and youthful with best drinking from day of purchase through 2029.
