In 2021, a dry growing season with only 14 inches of rain posed challenges from the start. Late winter and early spring brought cold, dry weather, impacting plant growth. Despite smaller canopies, ideal mild weather during flowering ensured quality. The season produced an average to slightly below average crop size of outstanding quality. Mild temperatures prevailed with intermittent heat events, but the return of fog, a rarity due to climate change, saved the vintage by maintaining cool nighttime temperatures and hydration. Despite the year's challenges, the wines exhibit remarkable verve, character, and site specificity.
