Description

The essence of the Russian River Valley bursts forth with vibrant notes of red fruits, lavender, and citrus, captivating the senses from the first sip. Sourced meticulously from diverse sites across the AVA, this wine embodies the finest expressions of the Middle Reach, Green Valley, Santa Rosa Plain, and the Laguna Ridge. Each location imparts its unique essence, painting a vivid portrait of the Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. On the palate, it exudes the perfect balance of grace and power, with impeccably ripened tannins complemented by lively acidity, leading to a seductive finish reminiscent of black tea and bergamot. With its broad appeal and an expansive window of drinkability, this wine promises to delight connoisseurs and enthusiasts alike.

The Pinot Noir for this blend was sourced from the following vineyards: Laguna, Martaella, Bucher, Olivet Lane, Lolita, and the Hallberg Vineyard.

In 2021, a dry growing season with only 14 inches of rain posed challenges from the start. Late winter and early spring brought cold, dry weather, impacting plant growth. Despite smaller canopies, ideal mild weather during flowering ensured quality. The season produced an average to slightly below average crop size of outstanding quality. Mild temperatures prevailed with intermittent heat events, but the return of fog, a rarity due to climate change, saved the vintage by maintaining cool nighttime temperatures and hydration. Despite the year's challenges, the wines exhibit remarkable verve, character, and site specificity.

Review

Alluring, with black tea and warmed raspberry and boysenberry compote notes leading the way, backed by additional mulberry, hibiscus and violet accents. Reveals racy acidity that's nicely buried on the finish, allowing this to conclude with a flamboyant flourish of fruit. Drink now through 2030.
