By Farr RP Cote Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017
RP, an homage to Robyn Pamela—Nick Farr's maternal pillar—hails from the esteemed Côte Vineyard. This plot, perched on an exposed slope with northern, northeastern, and eastern orientations, hosts meticulously selected clones, rootstocks, trellising, and stewardship—an embodiment of Farr's landscape mastery.
Harvested by hand and vineyard-sorted, the fruit finds its destiny in open-top fermenters. A delicate balance of 40 to 50% undergoes destemming followed by a four-day cold soak. Maturation matures gracefully in 50 to 60% new Allier French oak barrels across 18 months.
Intriguingly deep, the red is edged in black, emanating a luminous red hue. The scent captivates with violets, red and dark cherries, strawberries, subtle clove, forest floor, dried herbs, and spicy cedar—invoking a sensory symphony. The palate blossoms with rich dark cherries, ripe strawberries, unfurling like a peacock's tail. Nuances of meatiness, clove, delicate vanillin cedar, forest floor, and spicy herbs emerge. Supple and textured, fine velvety tannins are complemented by invigorating acidity, crafting a superb structure. A symphony of power culminates in a protracted, savory finish. A striking Pinot Noir, evoking the essence of Burgundy.
