Renowned and respected as one of the finest producers in Burgundy, Bouchard Père et Fils has truly become an institution, known for the exceptional quality of their wines and the diversity of its many vineyards.
Founded in 1731, Bouchard Père et Fils has built up an estate of 130ha and, collectively, is the largest owner of Grand Crus (12ha) and Premier Crus (74ha) across the Côte d’Or. Bouchard Père et Fils represents almost one hundred ‘climats’ or uniquely diverse vineyards, including prestigious monopoles such as ‘Beaune Grèves Vigne de l’Enfant Jésus’ and ‘Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte’.
Porusot (sometimes spelled "Poruzot" or "Le/s Porusot/s") is a Premier Cru vineyard of the Meursault appellation in Burgundy's Cote de Beaune sub-region. Located (like so many) on the midslope of the Côte d'Or escarpment, the vineyard enjoys a limestone-predominant terroir that is very well suited to the production of high-quality wines made from Chardonnay.
From a parcel amounting to nearly 60 acres, Bouchard's 2019 Meursault 1er Cru Les Poruzots offers up notes of citrus oil, white flowers, wheat toast, and fresh peach. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, with lively acids and a bright, saline finish, this is a controlled rendition of a site that can often produce rather rich wines.
There is a hint of matchstick character to the ripe yet restrained aromas of green fruit and citrus rind where the latter element is also present in the intense, muscular, and concentrated larger-bodied flavours that conclude in a lingering finale that is borderline tannic. This isn't especially refined but it is powerful and notably more structured.
