It is the stony ground to which the vine clings that has given rise to the name of this exceptional 'Climat': Perrieres. This premier cru has been renowned for its finesse and pureness for many years, in the mid 19th century, the wine maker, M. de Vergnette stated in one of his works that apart from the true Montrachets, I know of no other wine so exquisite. Later Dr Lavalle mentioned it as 'Tete de Cuvee' in his 1855 rating.
An elegant, airy and cool nose reflects notes of mineral reduction, citrus confit, apple and anise wisps. The racy, intense and overtly mineral-driven flavours are not quite as dense, but they do offer excellent length on the slightly firmer and more austere finale. This is going to need a few years to flesh out as it's presently quite compact and tightly wound.
