Description

Paying homage to his historic cellars, Charles Heidsieck unveils its greatest treasure to oenophiles through a collection called “Crayères”.

Disgorgement: 2021 Cellared from 2001.

Only 740 bottles made

To the eye - A golden robe with glints of green and refined bubbles for creamy, generous streams of effervescence.

2000 in Champagne

Following flowering, the grapes were abundant and beautiful. Then a torrent of storms and hail starting in April looked as though it would jeopardize everything. The grape bunches that escaped disaster were threatened with mildew and botrytis. However, sunny days during the harvest enabled the grapes to boast all the necessary characteristics for potentially excellent wines.

Time, like a “fourth varietal”, has crafted the soul of the wines in the Crayères Collection. Extended ageing on lees has unlocked the full potential of their aromas. Each vintage has its own signature, its own generous tone. Rooted in the highest standards and precise construction, all promise to deliver a harmonious combination of flavours. Selectively released, whosoever is lucky enough to enjoy these precious jewels can boast of experiencing the dream of travelling through time. Each bottle brilliantly showcases the skill of Charles
Heidsieck’s Cellar Masters; only insightful blending and the highest quality production can withstand such a test of time.

A rich note of smoke heralds this toasty version, with truffle and roasted hazelnut aromatics accenting layered flavors of creamed apple, crystallized honey, lemon curd and crème de cassis. Vibrant, with a lovely, lacy texture and racy acidity that persists on the mouthwatering finish. Drink now through 2028

Bright gold. Smoke-accented orchard fruits, herbs and citrus pith on the the intensely perfumed nose. Deeply pitched but lively on the palate, with very good depth to its intense pear and lemon curd flavors. The smoky note builds on the back half and carries through a long, sappy, impressively focused finish. This year's release seems tighter and more youthful than last year's version.

Tasting Profile

Nose
A warm wine opening with spicy notes, notes of honey and candied fruit, such as fig, apricot, mandarin or even passion fruit. There are also notes of pastry, praline and candied chestnuts. The nose picks out the roasted flavours of toast and cocoa.
Palate
The palate is ample and generous, supported by an attractive acidic structure. The finish is salty and spicy. The freshness support the aromatic complexity. This all suggests, again, good cellaring potential.
