Description

Immerse yourself in the extraordinary rarity of the 2021 Bonnes-Mares from Domaine Comte de Vogüé, a highly sought-after treasure renowned for its unparalleled influence from whole clusters. Elevating youthful complexity to new heights, the nose entices with a symphony of plums, red and black cherries, gamebird, woodsmoke, dark soil tones, sweet stem nuances, and cedary oak. This fine expression of Bonnes-Mares terroir, nestled in the northeastern corner with terres rouges soils, shines brilliantly in the 2021 vintage. The palate unveils depth, purity, and full-bodied opulence, accentuated by superb soil signatures, ripe buried tannins, and a long, poised, and complex finish of impeccable balance. A true masterpiece, this wine promises a fine journey through 2035-2100.

Plenty of red fruit character here, plus notes of wet earth, blood orange and violets. Excellent concentration for 2022 with beautifully integrated fine tannins, the fresh acidity helping to drive the long, delicately earthy finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.

Review

Made from vines exclusively on red clay, this tends to be a powerhouse at de Vogüé. So, I was surprised when it was served before Amoureuses, even if geographically it makes sense for Amoureuses to be followed directly by Musigny. Regardless, there was a notable, new level of finesse here in the hands of Jean Lupatelli. Every aspect of the wine felt as intense as in prior vintages, simply less forced and more immediately elegant. Black cherries and floral flourishes finish with savory saline notes.
