Grace Madeline wine is a harmonious blend, comprised predominantly of Sauvignon Blanc (75%) complemented by Semillon (25%), originating from vines planted in 1976 on the pristine grounds of Cullen Estate. These vines, steadfastly rooted in their soil, boast certification as both biodynamic and carbon neutral—a testament to their enduring connection with the land.
The name "Grace Madeline" pays homage to a remarkable woman, Diana Madeline’s mother. Grace, a suffragette hailing from London, found solace and purpose in the Tasmanian landscape she called home. A devoted mother to three daughters, she cherished nature's bounty and advocated for its preservation.
This distinctive blend, first crafted at Cullen Wines in 1979, has since emerged as a cornerstone of the region's winemaking legacy. Harvested during the auspicious lunar cycle of March 2023, spanning the full moon's radiance from the 6th to the 12th, with select days marked by the blossoming of flowers and fruit, the grapes embody a celestial alignment of flavors.
The wine's character is shaped by meticulous craftsmanship, with overnight skin contact bestowing phenolic tension and delicate tannins. Barrel and concrete egg fermentation contribute depth and texture, while the Sauvignon Blanc undergoes a natural yeast fermentation process in 100% biodynamic puncheons, 85% of which are pristine and new. Meanwhile, the Semillon component finds its expression through tank fermentation.
This exceptional vintage promises longevity, destined to evolve gracefully under screwcap for a minimum of 15 years, a testament to its enduring quality and craftsmanship.
