Domaine Derey Frères Fixin 'Les Hervelets' 1er Cru 2021
Domaine Derey is from a lesser known village in Couchey, a village that is sold under the name of it’s better known neighbor Marsannay. Couchey is located north of Fixin and south of Marsannay. The Derey family has been farming these vineyards since 1850 and remains a true family business to this day. The parents, Pierre and Suzanne, run the estate with their 3 sons Maxime, Romain, and Pierre-Marie. The family uses traditional methods to work the vineyards and gentle techniques that respect the soil.
With more Arvelets than Hervelets in the blend, the wine presents a solid darker crimson-purple hue, though exhibiting a slight lack of freshness at this stage.
Nevertheless, the palate boasts ample volume at its core, supported by robust tannins, delivering a commendable expression of darker fruit with subtle hints of liquorice.
