The Leflaive family has been in Burgundy since 1717 and began to take shape as a Domaine in the early 1900s under the leadership of Claude Leflaive. The Domaine gained its prominence in the hands of Anne-Claude Leflaive, who converted the vineyards to biodynamics in the 1990s giving the wines greater transparency in their expression of terroir.
There are several premier cru wines, the most important of which is probably the Les Clavoillon, which was one of the wines included in the 1976 Judgment of Paris. The Clavoillon comes from a single block of 5 ha in the centre right of the village looking up to the Côte. Homogenous clay soil.
An overtly floral suffused nose displays notes of pear compote, citrus confit, and subtle spice wisps. There is an excellent vibrancy to the attractively textured medium-weight flavours that also exude a refreshing salinity on the citrusy, dry, and notably, more complex finish that is perceptibly firmer. This should age well.
