Description

The Cotat estate boasts a captivating narrative that traces back to 1947 when brothers Francis and Paul embarked on a journey of cultivating Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir on the revered slopes of "Monts Damnés" in Chavignol. Originating with a single cuvée, each bearing their distinct labels, their legacy unfolded. Upon their retirement, the estate gracefully transitioned to their sons, François and Pascal. While François upholds the cherished family traditions, crafting exceptional Sancerre wines in an organic, time-honored fashion, Pascal Cotat, despite overseeing a mere 2 hectares of vineyards, has garnered widespread acclaim in the Fine Wine realm.

Renowned for his Sauvignon Blancs with exceptional aging potential, Pascal's vineyards, nestled in Chavignol's Grande Côte and Monts Damnés, boast vines over 40 years old, enriching the character of his wines. Employing a distinctive harvesting approach, Pascal patiently waits two weeks longer than his Sancerre counterparts, resulting in wines of unparalleled ripeness. The meticulous winemaking process at Cotat sees both wines fermenting in aged barrels and aging for 6 to 8 months before spring bottling, sans fining or filtration, thus preserving their innate essence.

During a meeting with Pascal in September 2022, he expressed satisfaction with the modest yields of the 2020 and 2021 vintages, lauding the "classic Sancerre" quality of the fruit. The preceding dry season and timely September rains fostered optimal conditions, culminating in a 30% increase in yields compared to the previous year.

Cotat wines have garnered acclaim for their old-style Sancerre, distinguished from contemporary norms. Renowned critic Robert Parker extolled them as some of the finest Sauvignon Blancs he's encountered. François' vineyard, boasting vines averaging 40 years in age, yields exuberant wines, with tropical fruit notes and a lush texture harmoniously balanced by refreshing acidity and tactile minerality.

Prepare to be captivated by the Domaine Pascal Cotat Sancerre La Grande Côte 2022. Aromas of lime zest, fresh pear, and delicate herbs greet the senses, while the palate unveils juicy, mineral-rich depths, complemented by flavors of stone fruits and crushed stones. Each sip of this exquisite wine reveals a symphony of flavors, adorned with nuances of pear, green apple, honeysuckle, and delicate white flowers, encapsulating the essence of Sancerre's terroir and craftsmanship. Embark on a journey of refined flavors and sensory delights with this exceptional expression from Domaine Pascal Cotat.
