Domaine Vacheron, deeply rooted in Sancerre for generations, recently saw the transition of leadership from brothers Denis and Jean-Louis Vacheron to the capable hands of cousins Jean-Dominique and Jean-Laurent Vacheron. Their experiences, gained separately in Burgundy and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, have led to a passionate commitment to biodynamic practices, breathing new life into the estate.
The Sancerre Blanc vines thrive in calcareous, flint-rich soils, and the grapes are meticulously harvested by hand in 20 kg boxes. The gentle pressing, cold decanting, and fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures below 20 ºC help preserve the grape's vibrant fruity aromas. The wine's journey concludes with a graceful aging on lees, precise filtration, and an elegant bottling, resulting in a wine that offers a delightful interplay of fruity and floral aromas, with mineral nuances, balanced tension, and an enveloping volume.
On the 2020 : ‘Most producers can only dream of an ‘entry-level’ wine that’s this good. The 2020 Sancerre is a touch flinty on the nose right now, and offers pure fruit reminiscent of gooseberry, nettle and boxwood. This has a certain ease to it, conveying a mellow texture within its light-bodied frame. Drink 2021-2028.
