This is another stellar vintage of the Grosset Piccadilly chardonnay. At present, there are some cedary, cashewy notes that will become less overt over the next twelve months and allow the stone fruit flavours – white peach and honeydew melon – to shine even more brightly. This chardonnay is powerful, intense, multi-layered and yet has underlying restraint. Crisp and vibrant to finish.
Jeffrey Grosset's renowned mastery extends beyond his sublime and iconic Rieslings, casting a brilliant spotlight on his often-overlooked gem, the Piccadilly Chardonnay. Hailing from the enchanting Adelaide Hills, this Chardonnay unveils a luscious tapestry of stone fruits and citrus, artfully woven with traces of minerality that culminate in a resplendent, enduring finish. It is, in a word, superb!
Pale quartz-green. Grosset's oenological mastery comes down to three words: purity, balance and length. The late wine writer Tony Keys' approach was, 'When I taste a wine from a well-regarded winery I start with the maximum score (of 10) and deduct 0.1 for each fault.' He would have given this wine the maximum. I'm almost there.
